Values are the best medium to understand, analyse and judge anything—be it sports, be it culture. Values are very important aspects for any sport activities.
Upon our civilized community, different sports, like-football, cricket, tennis etc. impart a great impact. There are many unique ways the activity of playing influence our society. Earlier, I mean, before the rise of different sports activity all the parents used to act as cults or role models for their children. And, now? They look to athletes and try to imitate everything…their walking, talking, smiling as well as try to take up their good hobbies, habits and works in their own life.
However, this blind and pretty immature imitation can impart both positive and negative effects…..I’ll give examples. Suppose, a kid's favorite player is Dennis Rodman. Of course he watches his hero pushing around other players on court. He also observes him unnecessarily being caught into trouble with cops before starting of every game. As a result, after some time, and more importantly, if he or she has no one around to show the proper way of living and guide, the kid may think that it is going to think its ok to push other people and get in trouble all the time because that's what these winners do. Therefore, we have to act carefully before exposing these kids to all the sports, and ensure that they are not adopting to all the bad elements likely to generate from sports.
On other hand, sports gifts us all the elements of a great personality……it enhances our moral character. Different sports, based on its type, i.e. indoor or outdoor separately adds to our moral as well as spiritual development….and, we all know that very well. Equality in sports, sense of discipline, punctuality, perseverance, leadership quality…..you just name it, and sports activities contributes a lot in that sector.
Another thing that we learn gradually from sports is: Healthy competition. Competition in sport can be a healthy, decent, fair yet a very very exiting way of channelling our life-force and energies. The challenge, in fact gives birth of that competition and prepares the mindset accordingly….which in turn, fosters team work, develops friendships, and, another thing which I am dying to mention here. Sportsman-like spirit. It is also ultimately developed from that good old factor only: Healthy competition. This spirit helps to cop up with the situation and finally, accept it easily (and, indifferently) if your team loses a game, or if you alone loose a game. Sports teaches us that life is not all about success and makes us learn to lose and yet keep smiling. This is as important a lesson as learning to win and be a champion. What truly matters in the end is the kind of competitor, player and/or supporter you are.

Wade turns MVP duet into a trio
his was summer, a private corner of the Beijing Normal University gymnasium and Dwyane Wade had to laugh. Yes, he understood the nature of the public’s fleeting focus, but his had been a furious free fall. His greatness had been out of sight, out of mind.
“I was written off in one year quicker than anybody had ever been,” Wade said.
Kobe and LeBron.
LeBron and Kobe.
The NBA’s genius trio had dwindled to a duet.
In the minds of most, D-Wade had been deleted.
“Being injured, it was like I had forgotten how to play basketball,” Wade said. “But it made me hungry and it put me back in the position where I’ve always been and that’s the underdog.”
Once the United States had won its gold medal in the Summer Games, there was one thing that everyone within USA Basketball could agree upon: The MVP was Dwyane Wade. Across the summer, he had been the best player. He had returned bigger, stronger and as explosive as ever. Kobe and LeBron were the starters, but Wade became the closer for Team USA. Everyone should’ve seen him coming this season, a freight train gathering speed in the distance.
Wade isn’t the MVP yet, but he’s in the conversation. He probably isn’t going to win the award on a team just five games over .500, particularly when Kobe and LeBron are fighting for the best record in the NBA. That’s just how it goes.
Nevertheless, Wade has restored his standing as one of the planet’s genius talents. When Wade beat the Chicago Bulls on that steal and running three-pointer at the second-overtime buzzer on Monday night – a performance resulting in 48 points, 12 assists, four steals and three blocks – his candidacy reached its crescendo.
Wade is leading the NBA in scoring, pushing 30 points a game, and ranks second in steals. Most of all, he’s shown again that he’s capable of everything that LeBron and Kobe can do. This is the perfect position for him again, on the comeback, because Wade was never the teen basketball prodigy. He was never the next big thing. He’s snuck up once, and now he’s done it again.
“You need things to push you, and I found them,” Wade said during the summer. “Listen, I won a championship. I’ve been a Finals MVP. I’ve had All-Star games. I’m on every commercial you see. My life is good.
“But you have to keep going and keep going. There are always guys that are going to push me. LeBron and Kobe are two of the best talents this game has ever seen. If you want your name to be right there with them, you’ve got to continue working hard. There are always things that are going to push you.”
Wade has been surrounded with pedestrian talent, but he’s made them the team that nobody wants to play in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. With the summer of 2010 looming, Wade has delivered a reminder to NBA owners and general managers about the definition of a franchise player: All alone, he can make a team relevant. All alone, he can get a team out of the first round.
Those stars are rare, and Wade is still one of them.
When he missed so many games over the past two seasons with injuries, yes, it was easy to count him out of the Kobe-LeBron conversation. He had an NBA title, a Finals MVP award, but Wade had threatened to turn into a superstar more synonymous with his commercials and billboards than a worldly greatness. No more.
Now, the NBA’s genius duet is a trio again.
Kobe.
LeBron.
D-Wade.
Again.

Red Sox closer Papelbon compares Ramirez to cancer
NEW YORK – Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon on Thursday stood by a magazine interview in which he compared former teammate Manny Ramirez to cancer and said Boston made the right decision when it traded the slugger to the Los Angeles Dodgers last summer. Papelbon was quoted in the April issue of Esquire as saying, "He was on a different train! And you saw what happened with that. We got rid of him, and we moved on without him."The story was posted on the magazine's Web site Thursday.
"So Manny was tough for us," Papelbon added. "You have somebody like him, you know at any point in the ballgame, he can dictate the outcome of the game. And for him not to be on the same page as the rest of the team was a killer, man! It just takes one guy to bring an entire team down, and that's exactly what was happening."
"Once we saw that, we weren't afraid to get rid of him. It's like cancer. That's what he was. Cancer. He had to go. It sucked, but that was the only scenario that was going to work. That was it for us. And after, you could feel it in the air in the clubhouse. We got Jason Bay — Johnny Ballgame, plays the game right, plays through broken knees, runs out every ground ball — and it was like a breath of fresh air, man! Awesome! No question."
In the Red Sox clubhouse before playing the Cardinals in Jupiter, Fla., on Thursday, Papelbon backed up his assertions.
"I'm not afraid to say it," he said. "If it's the truth and I believe it, I'll say it."
Papelbon also said he had not heard from teammates or anyone else asking him to soften his statements about Ramirez.
"Because I think they all know that's the truth," he said. "If I said something that was out of line, then yeah. But I don't think I said anything that's out of line. I spoke the truth.

Liverpool looks forward to Man Utd clash
LIVERPOOL (AFP) – Rafael Benitez believes Liverpool's Champions League humiliation of Real Madrid has set the stage perfectly for his side to cut Manchester United down to earth in Saturday's make-or-break Premier League clash.Benitez admits Liverpool must win at Old Trafford or forget about catching their rivals in the domestic title race, and a Fernando Torres-inspired 4-0 demolition of Real could hardly have been better preparation.
"When you have an important game coming up, if the players play well and score four goals against a top side like Real Madrid you have to be really pleased," the Spaniard said. "As a manager maybe it is the best way to approach a big game."
The return of Fernando Torres from injury helped inspire what was arguably Liverpool's finest display of the season, although their fans would be guilty of wishful thinking if they were to anticipate United's defence conceding as many chances as Real's hapless back four did here on Tuesday evening.
The irrepressible Torres opened the scoring after quarter of an hour, a penalty from Steven Gerrard killed the tie and the Liverpool captain's second and a late effort from substitute Andrea Dossena sent Benitez's men into the last eight for the fourth time in his five seasons in charge.
Adopting an unexpectedly bold approach, Benitez once again demonstrated his tactical nous on the European stage as Real were caught cold by Liverpool's high-tempo pressing, as well as being unable to cope with the pace and trickery of Torres.
"We knew that maybe they were expecting that we would play deep and try to play on the counter-attack," Benitez said. "From the beginning we tried to put pressure on them and we kept on top of them from the beginning to the end. They found it difficult to deal with our tempo."
For Real boss Juande Ramos, the defeat, which means Real have failed to advance beyond this stage since 2004, represents a blow to his chances of continuing in his job beyond the end of this season.
The former Sevilla and Tottenham manager admitted Liverpool deserved to go through but voiced grievances over the manner of their first two goals, claiming Torres and fouled Pepe in the build-up to the first while describing the penalty as doubtful.
